Type: Schlechter 19272 (holo B, lost; iso AMES, BO, G, L, NSW; NB also paratype number of Acanthephippium papuanum Schltr.)

Terrestrial, climbing, branched, 3 m high or more. Flowering branches leafy, terete, entirely covered with the leaf-sheaths, c. 0.3 cm diam. Leaves erect-patent, lanceolate-elliptic, acuminate, glabrous, oblique, at the base cuneate, 9-13 cm long, near the middle 1-1.5 cm wide. Inflorescences lateral, rather laxly 2-4-flowered. Floral bracts elliptic, slightly curved, much shorter than ovary. Flowers erect-patent. Sepals ligulate, subobtuse, glabrous, 1.4 cm long. Lateral sepals falcate, apiculate, about as long as the median sepal. Petals linear-falcate, obtuse, c. 1.1 cm long, glabrous. Lip at the base cuneate, elliptic, obtuse, densely papillose-puberulous above, 0.8 cm long, above or at the middle 0.4 cm long, basal keels 2, merging in front, decurrent near the middle of the lip. Column semiterete, curved, glabrous, without a foot, a little shorter than the lip; clinandrium with a few irregular teeth. Ovary slender, glabrous, c. 1.2 cm long. (After Schlechter, 1911-1914)


Plant dark grey-brown when dried. Flowers yellowish, outside with red dots.

Terrestrial in lowland forest; 150 m.
