Bulbophyllum muriceum

Synonyms:
Epiphyte, 12-16 cm high. Rhizome very short. Roots filiform, flexuose, glabrous. Pseudobulbs ovoid, 1-2 by 0.6-1 cm below the middle; 1-leaved. Leaf erect, ligulate, minutely apiculate, glabrous, 9-18 by 0.8-1.7 cm near the middle; base gradually narrowed into a petiole. Inflorescences 1-flowered, with few small sheaths, c. 2 cm long. Floral bracts very small, many times shorter than the slender ovary. Flower very small for the section, erect. Sepals ovate-oblong, subacute, glabrous, 0.85 cm long. Lateral sepals oblique, at the base the front margin somewhat dilated. Petals obliquely ovate, 0.3 cm long; margins and inside to the apex with large subulate papillae. Lip somewhat fleshy, oblong, obtuse, glabrous, 0.6 cm long; basal half grooved in the middle. Column short; stelidia fairly large, subulate, acute, with quadrangular base, dorsally sublobulate. Anther oblongoid-quadrangular, glabrous; in front slightly incised. Pedicel and ovary slender 2.3-2.5 cm long. (After Schlechter, 1913)
Flowers yellowish. Sepals inside striped red. Petals with dark red spots. Lip golden yellow, with brown spots. Anther dark red.
Epiphyte in lower montane forest; 1200 m.
