Type: Brass 10538 (holo AMES).

Rather small epiphyte. Roots spreading. Rhizome creeping, 0.2–0.3 cm diam., new shoot from the basal node of the pseudobulb; rhizome scales thin, withering soon. Pseudobulbs distinct, 0.2–0.9 cm apart, ovoid, 0.6–2.0 by 0.3–0.6 cm, (?)angular. Leaf: petiole 0.5–0.9 cm long; blade elliptic(-oblong) to obovate(-oblong), 2.9–8.0 by 0.4–1.0 cm, index 6.4–13.7; apex obtuse. Inflorescences single or few together, 10–11 cm long, 1-flowered; peduncle 5.5–6.0 cm long; scales c. 3; floral bracts c. 0.5 cm long. Flowers: pedicel and ovary c. 3.8 cm long; basal node c. 0.3 cm above the floral bract attachment. Median sepal free, recurved, ovate, 0.58–0.95 by 0.23–0.32 cm, index 2.5–3.0; margins entire, minutely papillose; apex acute; glabrous; 3-nerved. Lateral sepals recurved, ovate, triangular, 0.59–1.25 by 0.24–0.35 cm, index 2.4–3.6; margins entire; apex acute; glabrous; 3-nerved. Petals porrect, ovate, 0.3–0.4 by 0.15–0.18 cm, index 2.0–2.3; margins minutely erose, papillose to ciliolate; apex rounded; surface glabrous; 1-nerved. Lip about straight, thick, near the base ovate, tapering into a narrow, oblong apical part with a slightly thickened apex, 0.5–0.65 by 0.16–0.17 cm, index 3.1–3.9 (without spreading); margins entire, hirsute near the base, glabrous in the top half; apex rounded; upper side concave near the base and with two converging, distinct, rounded, distinctly papillose ridges which grade into the convex top part at about 2/5–1/2 of the length of the lip, also with two much shorter, converging ridges close to the base, upper surface otherwise glabrous; underside with a deep median furrow from base to apex, otherwise convex and densely hirsute near the base, slightly concave and glabrous elsewhere. Column including stelidia 0.19–0.2 cm long; column foot distinctly widened, with patent, obtuse lateral teeth; stigma narrowly obovate; stelidia upwards falcate, narrowly triangular, subulate in the top part, 0.08–0.09 cm long, acute; pollinia 4.

Sepals and petals pale purple with darker specklings. Lip yellow, apex purple.

Bulbophyllum stagmatoglossum J.J.Verm., Schuit. & de Vogel belongs in series B.

Bulbophyllum stagmatoglossum J.J.Verm., Schuit. & de Vogel is most similar to Bulbophyllum exilipes Schltr., but differs in the ovate petals (versus petals broadly ovate and distinctly narrowed half-way their length), the papillose ridges on the upper side of the lip (versus ridges glabrous) and the obtuse swollen top part of the lip (versus top part of the lip narrow and acute) and the upwards falcate stelidia (versus stelidia downwards falcate).
