Type: Wickenden 36 (holo E).

Rather small epiphyte. Roots spreading. Rhizome creeping, c. 0.4 cm diam., sections between pseudobulbs arising from the basal node of the pseudobulb; rhizome scales thick, weathering to persistent woolly fibres. Pseudobulbs distinct, ovoid-cylindrical, hardly angular, c. 2.5 by 0.9 cm. Leaf: petiole c. 1.2 cm long; blade thick, obovate-oblong, c. 6.4 by 0.7 cm, index 9.1–9.2; apex subacute. Inflorescences single or few together, c. 24 cm long, 1-flowered; peduncle c. 17 cm long; floral bracts 1.1–1.2 cm long. Flowers: pedicel and ovary c. 4 cm long; basal node c. 0.9 cm above the floral bract attachment. Median sepal free, recurved, ovate, c. 2.4 by 0.9 cm, index 2.6–2.7; margins entire; apex acute; minutely papillose; 3(–4)-nerved. Lateral sepals free, recurved, triangular, 2.8–1.15 cm; margins entire. glabrous; apex acute; minutely papillose; 3(–4)-nerved. Petals porrect, ovate-oblong, c. 1 by 0.7 cm, index 1.4–1.5; margins slightly erose, ciliolate; surface glabrous; apex obtuse; 4-nerved. Lip slightly recurved near the base, ovate-oblong, thick, c. 1.2 by 0.4 cm, index c. 3 (without spreading); margins about entire, densely hirsute towards the base, glabrous towards the apex; apex obtuse; upper surface with two slightly converging ridges which continue up to c. 3/5 of the length of the lip, where they grade into the convex lip surface, rather close together and with a rather narrow furrow in between; lower surface unevenly papillose-hirsute towards the margins in the basal half of the lip, glabrous elsewhere, distinctly convex, deeply furrowed and unevenly papillose-hirsute near the base, slightly concave and glabrous towards the top. Column including stelidia c. 0.5 cm long; column foot distinctly widened, with patent, obtuse lateral teeth; stigma narrowly obtriangular, its base not protruding from the column face; stelidia straight, narrowly triangular, c. 0.26 cm long, acute; pollinia 4.

Bulbophyllum ischyron J.J.Verm., Schuit. & de Vogel belongs in series B.

Bulbophyllum ischyron J.J.Verm., Schuit. & de Vogel is is most similar to Bulbophyllum dologlossum J.J.Verm., Schuit. & de Vogel, but differs in the acute sepals (versus sepals long-acuminate), the 4-nerved petals (versus petals 1-nerved). the ovate-oblong lip which gradually tapers without narrowed parts towards the apex (versus narrowed at the base and in the middle), with 2 ridges on the upper side (versus ridges 4), and the straight stelidia (versus stelidia curved).
