Synonyms:
Epiphyte. Plant creeping. Roots spreading . Rhizome sprouting from a node below the pseudobulb, not fused with the pseudobulbs, 0.08–0.15 cm diam.; rhizome scales chartaceous, persistent. Pseudobulbs close together, obliquely erect, 1-leaved, ovoid, 0.8–1.2 by 0.3–0.4 cm, slightly angular. Leaf coriaceous; petiole c. 0.1 cm long; blade narrowly elliptic, 1.8–3 by 0.4–0.6 cm, index 4.5–5, with acute, minutely retuse apex. Inflorescence solitary, 1-flowered, 4.2–7.5 cm long; peduncle 3–6.3 cm long; scale leaves 4; floral bract infundibular, c. 0.2 cm long. Pedicel and ovary 0.75–1.2 cm long; pedicel 0.04 cm diam., basal node 0.075 cm above the floral bract attachment; ovary sulcate. Median sepal free, slightly recurved, elliptic, 0.5–0.55 by 0.26–0.28 cm, index 1.8–2; subobtuse; margins entire; apex thickened; glabrous, 3-nerved. Lateral sepals slightly recurved, connate for c. 0.1 cm, obliquely oblong-ovate, 0.55–0.6 by 0.3 cm, index 1.8–2; margins entire; margins entire; apex subobtuse, shortly apiculate, thickened; glabrous, 3-nerved. Petals porrect, spatulate, 0.22 by 0.15 cm, index 1.5; margins entire; apex broadly rounded; glabrous, 1-nerved. Lip hinged, c. 1/4 from the base recurved, 3-lobed, in outline oblong, c. 0.35–0.4 by 0.25 cm, index 1.4–1.6 (with lateral lobes spread c. 0.35 cm wide); hypochile lateral lobes large erect, broadly oblong, along the margin minutely papillose, in front broadly rounded, with 2 converging, glabrous keels in the basal half of the hypochile; epichile oblong, glabrous, with swollen margins around an ovate glabrous cavity, with entire margins and rounded apex. Column including stelidia 0.13 cm long; column foot about linear; stigma subcircular; stelidia porrect, curved upward, deltoid, c. 0.5 mm long, obtuse, with an obtuse triangular tooth on the upper margin; anther and pollinia not seen.

Bulbophyllum rinkei Thoerle & W.APhillips was assigned to Bulbophyllum section Monanthaparva and compared with Bulbophyllum. pterostele Verm., O'Byrne & Lamb. Vermeulen, based on inspecting the drawings and photographs, consider this a species of Bulbophyllum sect. Polymeres.
