Dendrobium burkeanum Ormerod, Oasis 4, 1 (2009) 2, fig.
Type: Veitch cult. s.n. (Burke), from Indonesia, Maluku Prov., Ambon (holo K)
Synonyms:
Stem subterete, 1.5-3 m long, preserved remnant with inter nodes to 4.2 cm long, 0.8 cm thick. lnflorescence from upper nodes, 20 cm long; peduncle 11 cm long; rachis laxly flowered, 9 cm long; floral bracts broadly ovate-triangular, 0.4 by 0.25 cm, with acute apex. Pedicel and ovary terete subclavate, 2.8 cm long. Median sepal oblong-elliptic, 2.2 by 0.8 cm; apex subacute; 5-nerved. Lateral sepals obliquely elliptic-triangular, 2.1 by 0.9 cm; apex subacute; 5-nerved; mentum 1.2 cm long. Petals spathulate-oblanceolate, once twisted, 2.5 by 0.75 cm; apex subacute; 5-nerved, nerves near the margin distichously branching. Lip 3-lobed, 2.6 by 2 cm; hypochile obcordate-elliptic, 2.25 by 2 cm, lateral lobes elliptic and in front obtuse; epichile transversely elliptic, 0.6 by, 1.2 cm, apex minutely apiculate; keels 5, lamellate, outermost keels low and irregularly erose-dentate, inner keels more prominent, more or less the same height throughout the length of the hypochile and then decurrent on the base of the epichile, median keel apparent on the upper half of the hypochile and undulate-sigmoid on the epichile where it terminates midway at 0.3 cm tall. Column 0.7-0.8 cm long; stelidia subbidentate-truncate, denticulate on upper margin.

Sepals greenish-yellow , lightly suffused bronze-brown. Petals deep purple-brown. Lip with deep purple-brown lateral lobes and a greenish-yellow midlobe.

Dendrobium burkeanum Ormerod resembles Dendrobium brillianum Ormerod & Cavestro in the purple brown petals, the 5-keels in the lip and the transversely elliptic midlobe but differs in the narrower petals (0.75 versus 1.1 cm), the subacute apex (not emarginate), the obtuse mentum (not acute), and the shorter lip (2.6 versus 3.25 cm) with an obcordate-elliptic hypochile (not trapeziform)
