Type: Leiden cult. 950189 (holo L)
Synonyms:
Epiphytes. Rhizome 0.7–0.8 cm diam; rhizome scale leaves not long persistent, only few thin fibers remaining. Pseudobulbs c. 1.6 cm apart, distinct, (obliquely) erect, ovoid, c. 4 by 1.7–2.4 cm, rounded in section, with age wrinkling in numerous longitudinal grooves. Leaf petiole c. 4 cm long; blade elliptic, c. 16.5 by 4.8 cm, index 3.4–3.5; apex acuminate. Inflorescences c. 6 cm long, solitary to many in a fascicle, 1-flowered; peduncle 1.2–1.5 cm long; scale leaves 3–4, the longest c. 0.7 cm long; floral bracts 0.8–1 cm long. Pedicel and ovary 0.25–0.28 cm long; basal node 0.25–0.26 cm above the floral bract attachment. Median sepal free, c. porrect, recurved towards the apex, ovate, 1.75–1.8 by 0.52–0.62 cm, index 2.9–3.4, rather thick, thicker towards the apex; margins entire; glabrous; apex obtuse; c. 7-nerved. Lateral sepals as the median but slightly oblique, ovate-triangular, 1.8–2 by 0.52–0.55 cm, index 3.4–3.7. Petals near their base adnate to the column, porrect, elliptic, 0.4–0.42 by 0.18–0.2 cm, index 2.0–2.4, rather thin; margins entire; apex acute; glabrous; 1-nerved. Lip slightly beyond halfway recurved, c. ovate in outline, 0.25–0.27 by c. 0.21 cm, index 1.2–1.3 (without spreading), thick; margins entire; apex acute; glabrous; above near the base c. flat, with 2 low, rounded ridges which gradually emerge in the basal half of the lip, close to the margins and just short of the widest part of the lip, then run c. parallel along the length of the lip, enclosing a concave area, to just short of the apex where they merge into the convex apical part of the lip; below in the basal half of the lip with a median ridge with a rounded crest and a thin, shallow median groove. Column including stelidia 0.24–0.25 cm long; column foot not widened; stigma elliptic; stelidia porrect, triangular, 0.1–0.12 cm long, with acute apex; upper margin near the base with a slight, deltoid, obtuse tooth; anther with a rounded ridge, the front drawn out into a thick, concave, oblong, widely rounded beak, its surface minutely papillose; pollinia 4, the inner pair as long as the outer pair.

Bulbophyllum palleucum is similar to Bulbophyllum galactanthum Schltr., Bulbophyllum versteegii J.J. Sm., and Bulbophyllum stolleanum Schltr. in the narrow sepals (index of lateral sepals 2.5 or more), the ovate to triangular median sepal, and the narrow lateral sepals (0.3–0.58 cm wide) but differs from all three by the wide petals (0.18–0.2 versus 0.05–0.09 cm wide).
