Phreatia vandenbergiae (section Saccophreatia) is most similar to P. resiana J.J. Sm. in the sessile lip lamina, but differs in the longer leaves (8–19.6 versus 6–7.5 cm), longer peduncle (19–22.5 versus 2.5–4.5 cm), longer rachis (10–12.8 versus 3.5–5 cm), flowers with obliquely ovate petals (not trullate), a widely ovate lip blade (not triangular), and a much more pronounced and extended stigmatic area.
