Agrostophyllum huonense is similar to A. kairoanum Ormerod but differs in the smaller, shorter leaf sheath stipules (0.03-0.1 versus 0.3-0.6 cm), a much longer pedicel and ovary (1.3 versus 0.5 cm), a wider lip epichile (0.84 versus 0.6 cm) and a longer, stouter column (0.45 versus 0.35-0.36 cm).
Agrostophyllum huonense is also similar to A. montanum Schltr. but it apparently has estipulate leaf sheaths, many-flowered inflorescences (not 1-flowered), smaller flowers (sepals to 0.65 versus 0.85-0.975 cm) with more distinct, broadly rounded lateral lobes.
