Agrostophyllum subacuminatum Ormerod, Orchadian 17 (2011) 40, fig.

Type: L.J. Brass 10758 (holo AMES).

Epiphytic herb. Roots terete, pubescent, to 0.2 cm thick. Stems caespitose, subterete, completely enclosed by leaf sheaths, laxly 6-7 leaved in upper half, 33-34.8 by 0.28 cm, to 0.4 cm wide across the leaf sheaths. Leaves linear-ligulate, 9-12 by 0.30-0.45 cm; apex equally to inequally bidentate, the leaf tips 0.3-0.4 cm long, mucro very short; leaf sheaths acute to obtuse, 0.15-0.2 cm long, with stipules. Inflorescence terminal, with several bracts and sheaths, 1-2 flowered, c. 1.5 by 0.5 cm. Pedicel and ovary subterete, 1.4 cm long. Median sepal ovate-elliptic, 0.92-0.95 by 0.4-0.47 cm; apex acute; 5-nerved. Lateral sepals obliquely ovate-elliptic, 0.95-1.17 by 0.45-0.5 cm; apex acute; 5-nerved, the apex keeled. Petals oblong to obovate-elliptic, 0.97 by 0.35-0.4 cm; apex subacuminate; 5-nerved. Lip 3-lobed, 1-1.17 cm long (including apiculus); hypochile 0.2-0.29 by 0.22 cm, inside at the base with a rounded callus, lateral lobes rounded-truncate; ligula subquadrate, bidentate, minutely papillose-pubescent; epichile 0.85-1 by 0.89-0.9 cm, midlobe transversely oblong, short to long apiculate, 0.18-0.25 by 0.59-0.61 cm. Column stout, 0.475-0.49 cm long.

Agrostophyllum subacuminatum is similar to A. leucocephalum Schltr. but has somewhat longer stems with the upper internodes fully covered by the leaf sheaths(versus upper internodes partially exposed), the petals are subacuminate (versus obtuse to acute) and the midlobe of the lip epichile is twice as wide (verfsus half as wide).
