Liparis misoolensis differs from the similar L. flabellata J.J. Sm. in the broader leaves (2.4-2.8 versus 1.25-1.35 cm), an elliptic-suborbicular lip (versus obovate) and a shorter column (0.4 versus 0.65 cm).
Liparis ovalis Schltr differs from L. misoolensis in its terrestrial habit (versus epiphytic), in having 3 to 5 bract-like sheaths on the peduncle (vs. one large sheath), a more distinctly winged rachis, a more narrowly elliptic lip (0.7 versus 0.975 cm wide) and a straighter, basally more slender column.
