Hymenorchis brassii Ormerod, Orchadian 16 (2011) 517, fig.

Type: L.J. Brass 24849 (holo AMES).

Epiphytic herb. Roots few, terete, Stem erect, sometimes with decumbent lower half, densely up to 8- leaved, 1.1-2 by XX cm, 0.1-0.15 cm thick. Leaves fleshy, oblong to oblong-elliptic, 0.8-1.1 by 0.25-0.45 cm; leaf sheaths shortly tubular, upper margin lacerate; apex acute to obtuse; margins entire; waxy. Inflorescence 0.1-0.4 cm long; peduncle 0.1-0.25 cm long; rachis 3-florous, 0.05- 0.15 cm long; floral bracts ovate to lanceolate, c. 0.2 cm long, with entire margins, apex acute. Pedicel and ovary subcylindric, laxly pubescent, 0.7 cm long. Median sepal obovate, 0.9 by 0.5 cm; margin suberose; apex apiculate, thinly carinate dorsally; 3-nerved. Lateral sepals obliquely broadly elliptic, 0.89 by 0.57 cm; margins suberose; apex shortly and broadly apiculate, thinly carinate dorsally; 3-nerved. Petals obliquely obovate, 0.875 by 0.5 cm; margins irregular to suberose; apex rounded; 3-nerved. Lip spurred, not lobed; spur obovoid-ellipsoid, obtuse, 0.47 by 0.26 cm; epichile a deflexed, rounded flange, margins sparsely and minutely toothed, projecting 0.1 cm from the top of the spur, c. 0.2 cm long on oblique angle. Column c. 0.325 cm long to the tip of the rostellum; anther cap ovate, 0.2 cm long; pollinia 2, subglobose.

Leaf mid-green. Flowers translucent white to white; lip green and column green.

High epiphyte fairly densely covering (sometimes moss covered) branches in lower and upper montane forest, sometimes on steep slope, sometimes with bamboo in the understorey.

Hymenorchis brassii differs from the closely resembling H. caulina Schltr. in the short stem (versus long-stemmed), shorter leaves (0.8-1.1 versus 3- 4 cm) which are much fleshier, oblong to oblong-elliptic (versus thinner and linear-ligulate).
