Liparis brassii

Synonyms:
Terrestrial herb. Rhizome short, terete, covered by cataphylls. Roots terete, rigid. Pseudobulbs subcylindric, c. 1.5-2.5 cm long; sheath lanceolate, with acute apex, 15-veined, 6.5-7.5 by 1.6-2.0 cm. Leaves thin, linear-ligulate, 27.5-43.0 by 1.30-1.65 cm, strongly two veined below; apex acute. Inflorescence narrowly winged, 35.0-62.6 cm long; peduncle 19-31 cm long, with 5-6 lax sheathing bracts; rachis laxly 20-25-flowered, 16.0-31.5 cm long, with lanceolate floral bracts 0.8-1.3 by c. 0.2 cm with acute apex. Pedicellate ovary slender, narrowly winged, 1.2-2 cm long. Median sepal oblong ligulate, 1.37 by 0.2 cm; apex subacute; 3-nerved. Lateral sepals obliquely oblong ligulate, 1.3 by 0.31 cm; apex obtuse, 3-nerved. Petals linear, 1.37 by 0.1 cm; apex subacute; 1-nerved. Lip including claw c. 0.99 by 1.23 cm; claw short, subquadrate, 0.18-0.25 by 0.25 cm, with a callus that is with basal dorsal half united to column, its free part subquadrate, retuse; lamina transversely hexagonal, 0.81 by 1.23 cm; margin irregularly suberose; apex broadly apiculate. Column slender, gently arcuate near apex,0. 4-0.42 cm long; narrowly winged.
Flowers brown.
In forest undergrowth on river flats. Altitude 100 m.

Liparis brassii is similar to to Liparis mapaniifolia Schltr. in the lip being wider than long and having a retuse callus. It differs in the longer sepals (1.3-1.37 versus 0.55-0.65 cm) and larger labellum (0.99 by1.23 cm versus 0.47-0.55 by 0.65-0.78 cm) .
Liparis caricifolia is similar to Liparis brassii in the size of the flowers and shape of the labellum.but differs in the erect, thinly fleshy, obtuse labellum callus which In L. brassii is prostrate, much fleshier and retuse.
