Type: Brass 10858 (holo L; iso AMES).

Creeping or somewhat climbing terrestrial herb 55—85 cm tall. Rhizome ascending, arising above base of previous growth. Leaves 3—4, coriaceous, suberect, narrowly lanceolate, 10—17 by 0.5—0.7 cm; petiole 8—15 cm long, slender; margins serrate; apex acuminate. Inflorescence many-flowered, up to 85 cm tall; peduncle 50—70 cm long, pubescent, bearing two acute to acuminate, suberect scale leaves; floral bracts spreading, lanceolate, 0.5—1.3 by 0.15—0.25 cm, with acuminate apex; glabrous. Flowers resupinate, sepals and petals reflexed, glabrous on outer surface of sepals. Pedicel-with-ovary 0.8—1.0 cm long, glabrous. Median sepal reflexed and adnate to ovary, oblong-elliptic, 0.5 by 0.2 cm; apex obtuse. Lateral sepals obliquely ovate, 0.5 by 0.2 cm; apex obtuse. Petals oblong, 0.5 by 0.15 cm; apex obtuse; 1-nerved. Lip 3-lobed, spreading to deflexed, 0.4 by 0.6 cm; lateral lobes obliquely lanceolate-tapering, 0.3 by 0.1 cm, with obtuse apex; midlobe 0.3 by 0.12 cm, oblong-obovate, deeply emarginate, each lobule 0.05 cm long; callus small, consisting of 2 rounded warts; spur cylindrical-clavate, rising above the ovary 1.2 cm long. Column dilated at apex, 0.3 cm long.

Leaves dark green, paler below. Flowers yellow green.

Terrestrial in mossy montane forest, on edges of clearings and on grassy landslip. Altitude 2800 m.

Calanthe poiformis resembles the widespread C. micrantha Schltr. in flower shape and ascending clavate spur, but differs in the very distinct habit with ascending stem, leafy towards the apex, and linear-lanceolate coriaceous leaves with distinctly serrate margins.
