Type: Brass 10260 (holo L; iso AMES).

Creeping terrestrial herb up to 18 cm tall. Rhizome elongate, covered in papery sheaths, with a root at each node. Erect stem 3—5 cm long, leafy. Leaves distichous, suberect, linear-lanceolate, up to 6, 5—16 by 0.4—0.8 cm; petiole 1—4 cm long, slender; apex acuminate. Inflorescence lateral and basal, up to 7 cm tall, 2- to 5-flowered; peduncle 2—3 cm long, covered by 3—4 loosely sheathing, papery, obtuse scale leaves; floral bracts 1—1.2 by 0.45—0.5 cm, sheathing, papery, glabrous, with obtuse apex. Flowers not opening widely, resupinate, glabrous on outer surface of sepals. Pedicel-with-ovary 0.8 cm long, glabrous. Median sepal cucullate, elliptic, 0.7 by 0.3 cm; apex acute. Lateral sepals slightly obliquely elliptic, 0.6—0.7 by 0.3 cm; apex acute. Petals obliquely elliptic, 0.6 by 0.35 cm; apex subacute; 3-nerved. Lip recurved, entire, ligulate to rhombic, 0.2 by 0.1—0.18 cm; apex acute or subacute; callus consisting of two raised mounds; spur 0.6 cm long, straight, cylindrical, parallel to the ovary. Column slightly dilated above, 0.25 cm long.

Leaves green. Floral bracts green.Flowers white with an orange spot on the lip.

Terrestrial in deep shade in montane forest on limestone karst. Altitude c. 2800 m.

Calanthe lancilabris is similar in flower morphology to C. caulescens J.J. Sm. but differs in the long creeping rhizome and very short erect stem with several somewhat grass-like, linear leaves and short inflorescences that appear to be almost basal.
