Species Information - Dendrobium summerhayesianum

Dendrobium summerhayesianum A.D.Hawkes & A.H.Heller, Lloydia 20 (1957) 124 (nom. nov.).

Type: Schlechter 20030 (holo B, lost).

Rhizome very short, roots elongated, filiform, flexuose, glabrous. Stems crowded, erect to patent, rigid, terete, 30-50 cm by 5 mm, many-leaved, unbranched. Leaf sheaths entirely covering the stem. Leaves patent to erect-patent, elliptic, 5-9 by 2-3.2 cm, apex obtusely and unequally bilobulate. Inflorescences arising laterally from the stem, peduncle hardly developed, 2-flowered, spathe laterally compressed, very short, broadly obtuse. Ovary 0.8 cm long, subsessile, obconical, glabrous. Flowers c. 4 cm across. Sepals outside near the apex sparsely verruculose. Dorsal sepal oblong-subspathulate, 2 cm long, concave. Lateral sepals obliquely oblong-subspathulate, a little widened at the base, 2 cm long, mentum short, broadly obtuse. Petals obliquely obovate-spathulate, c. 2 cm long, outside sparsely verruculose near the apex. Lip oblong-subpandurate, slightly contracted above the middle, 0.8 by 0.5 cm, with spreading thickened veins and a linear basal keel extending to near the middle, in the apical part with sparse warts along the median, margins of apical part slightly undulate, apiculate. Column short, rather thick, clinandrium 3-lobulate, lateral lobules semirhombic, obtuse, the median triangular, smaller; column-foot incurved, near the apex with a small, flat, ovate callus. Anther rounded-cucullate, slightly retuse on both ends.
