Synonyms:
Epiphytic, stout, erect or pendent; roots filiform, glabrous. Stem elongated to 20 cm long, somewhat flattened, many-leaved, entirely covered with the laterally flattened, striate-veined leaf-sheaths, c. 0.5 cm wide. Leaves patent, ligulate, unequally and obtusely bilobulate, 8-15 cm long, near the middle 1.5-2.5 cm wide. Inflorescence long pedunculate, c. 15 cm long, ancipitous, gradually elongated; apical part of the peduncle as well as the rachis flattened. Floral bracts conduplicate, falcate, apiculate, about as long as the ovary. Flowers showy, opening in succession. Sepals linear-lanceolate, strongly acuminate-elongated, 3.5 cm long. Lateral sepals at the base subfalcate. Petals linear, elongated-acuminate, almost as long as the sepals, glabrous. Lip at the base oblongoid-saccate, above the base semiorbicular, 3-lobed above the middle, 1.8 cm long, when flattened 1.1 cm wide near the middle; lateral lobes short, falcate, apex truncate, 3-4-dentate; mid-lobe c. 3-4 times as long, cylindrical-swollen, subobtuse; in basal third of the lip with a linear, retuse appendage; inside at the apex of the sac with a semiglobose, densely papillose callus. Flowers yellowish white, lip with brown dots, basal callus brownish yellow.
Epiphyte in lowland forest; 10 to 150 m.

Thrixspermum collinum, T. platystachys and T. validum represent most probably the same species. A careful comparison of all available material including the still extant types should bring a conclusion. If correct, the oldest name is T. validum, which should then have priority
