Lateral sepals prominently crested on the abaxial side of the lateral sepals.


Pristine montane forest. Altitude1800 m.

Malesia (New Guinea), endemic.

Papua New Guinea (New Ireland Prov.), endemic.

Cool growing epiphyte.

Keels are sometimes present among the varieties of D. vexillarius bu t they are not prominent.

Dendrobium vexillarius var. hansmeyerense is similar to D. brevicaule Rolfe ssp. pentagonum, the only other taxon with a prominent abaxial keel, but the ovary has a very different shape in cross-section.
