Type: Kalkman 4360 (holo, L).

Plant straggling. Roots filiform, sparsely branching. Stems very slender, elongate, rooting, partly covered by the leaf-sheaths, to more than 45 by, 0.05 cm, twining, not branching, many-leaved, yellow when dried. Leaves suberect, almost filiform, in cross-section triangular, 1–1.7 by 0.02 cm; leaf sheaths 1.5–2 by 0.06 cm, tubular, glabrous, with truncate apex; mid-rib raised; apex obtuse. Inflorescences lateral, arising just below the leaf-sheath, 1-flowered; peduncle 0.2 cm long, completely enveloped by the 0.3 cm long, laterally flattened, oblong spathe. Flower already past anthesis in the specimen seen, c. 4 cm across if opening widely, resupinate. Median sepal very narrowly triangular, 2.1 by 0.4 cm; apex obtuse; 5-nerved. Lateral sepals falcate, caudate, 2.1 by 0.68 cm; apex obtuse; 5-nerved; mentum 0.58 cm long, in lateral view conical-oblong, rounded. Petals very narrowly triangular, slightly oblique at the base, 1.5 by 0.26 cm; apex obtuse; 3-nerved. Lip 3-lobed, in outline almost orbicular, 1.2 cm by 6.4 mm; base weakly clawed, claw 0.4 by 0.26 cm at the base; lateral lobes obliquely triangular, acuminate, inside with scattered, rather thick hairs, free part porrect, 0.46 cm long; callus linear, extending from just above the base of the lip to the base of the mid-lobe, in the apical part somewhat irregular with a few short hairs, otherwise glabrous; midlobe semi-orbicular, with irregular fimbriate margins, inside densely covered with long and rather thick hairs; apex cuspidate. Column 0.27 cm long without the anther; stigma semi-orbicular; rostellum short, transverse, truncate-emarginate; clinandrium concave, margin 5-dentate; column-foot 0.55 cm long, straight, almost at right angles to the ovary. Anther 0.07 cm long, cucullate, transversely rectangular in outline, umbonate; pollinia 0.06 cm long, obliquely narrowly oblong. Pedicel with ovary 0.4 cm long, terete, glabrous.

Flower pink with yellow tips, lip white.

Twining on the ground and in shrubs in a peaty place in a depression surrounded by primary forest. Altitude 1500 m.

Dendrobium sirophyton Schuit. & de Vogel is unique in section Grastidium in the twining habit, the short, almost hair-fine leaves, and the 1-flowered inflorescences. The flowers resemble those of D. acuminatissimum (Blume) Lindl. and related species, but are much smaller.
