Dendrobium hooglandianum Ormerod, Orchadian 15 (2007) 419, fig.

Type: R. D. Hoogland & R. Pullen 5950 (holo AMES).

Epiphytic herb. Rhizome not seen. Roots terete, fleshy, 0.3 cm thick. Stems at base terete, higher up complanate, 49.7- 65.5 by 0.15-0.4 cm, lower third leafless, upper two-thirds leafy; internodes 2.1-3.3 by 0.4-0.6 cm (including sheaths) , terminated by a short broadly triangular lobule 0.1-0.15 cm long, finely striate and minutely transversely rugulose. Leaves oblong-ligulate, 6.7-9.4 by 1.3-1.35 cm, coriaceous, smooth; apex unequally obtusely bilobed. Inflorescence emerging through the leaf sheaths opposite the base of the leaf blade; peduncle very short. Pedicellate ovary obconical, 0.5-0.6 cm long. Median sepal oblong- elliptic, 1.15-1.2 by 0.49 cm; apex obtuse, inside apex subcalceolate; 5-veined. Lateral sepals obliquely and broadly ovate- elliptic, 1.15 by 0.7 cm; apex obtuse, inside apex subcalceolate; 9-veined; mentum 0.6 cm long. Petals obliquely obovate, 1.1 by 0.495-0.5 cm; apex obtuse, basal quarter fleshy; main nerves 3, branched. Lip 3-lobed, rigidly arcuate, c. 0.8 by 0.5 cm, fleshy; hypochile obcuneate, with narrow, apically

incurved sidelobes, 0.4 by 0.5 cm, basally with an inconspicuous, slightly raised callus; epichile suborbicular, fleshy, transversely rugulose on margins and below apex, 0.4 mm long, 0.4-0.45 cm. Column broadly and obliquely conical, 0.2-0.25 cm long; column foot c. 0.6 mm long. Capsule not seen.

On branches of a tall tree in lower montane forest. Altitude 2150-2195 m.

Dendrobium hooglandianum differs from D. crassinervium J.J.Sm. in the longer leaves (6.7- 9.4 vs. 4.5 cm), flowers with obliquely obovate (not oblong-subrhombic) petals uniformly thickened basally ,(not just the 3 veins) and lip epichile with transversely rugulose edges (not papillose-puberulous).
