Rhizome elongated, creeping, mat-forming. Pseudobulbs crowded, 1-leaved, cylindrical, 0.5-1 by 0.2-0.3 cm. Leaves erect-patent, ligulate, 1-1.5 by 0.15-0.25 cm, apex apiculate. Inflorescences arising subterminally below the abaxial side of the leaf, 1-flowered. Pedicel and ovary 0.6 cm long, subclavate, triangular in cross section. Flower c. 0.7 cm long. Dorsal sepal broadly ovate, 0.3 cm long, apex obtuse. Lateral sepals obliquely broadly ovate, apex obtuse; mentum cylindrical, 0.3 cm long, obtuse. Petals obliquely ligulate, almost as long as the sepals. Lip clawed, the claw linear, 2.3 mm long, adnate to the column-foot, the blade oblong, somewhat dilated in upper half, 2.8 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, total length 0.5 cm, in basal part minutely pubescent, slightly swollen in the middle, apical margins swollen, apex obtuse. Column short, pubescent in front, stelidia truncate, filament tooth-like. Fruit 3-winged, the dorsal wings broader than the ventral wing, 0.8-1 cm.

Flower white, apex of lip light yellow to orange-yellow, anther yellow, greenish or white.

Epiphyte in hill forest, also lithophytic. Altitude 0 to 800 m.

New Guinea, Australia (Queensland).

Papua (Waigeo; Jayapura, Jaya Wijaya, and Merauke Regencies); Papua New Guinea (Sandaun, Morobe, and Central Provinces).

Warm growing epiphyte, keep in light shade.

Dendrobium funiforme Blume is a mat-forming species with an entire or weakly 3-lobed lip, of which the apical margins are distinctly swollen.
