Synonyms:
Rather large epiphyte, patent to pendulous, to 80 cm long. Roots attaching the base of the plant to the substratum, some roots growing over the rhizome towards its base. Rhizome sparsely branched, 0.3—0.55 cm diam., new shoots from the basal node of the pseudobulb; rhizome scales thin, leaving parts of the rhizome bare, withering soon. Pseudobulbs distinct, 1.8–3.5 cm apart, cylindrical, 2.8–5.3 by 0.5–0.6 cm. Leaf: petiole 0.25–0.7 cm long; blade ovate, 4.9–9.2 by 0.8–1.4 cm, index 4.9–7.8; apex acute. Inflorescences solitary or few together, c. 1.5 cm long, 1-flowered; peduncle c. 0.45 cm long; scales 1; floral bracts c. 0.46 cm long. Flowers: pedicel and ovary c. 0.46 cm long; basal node c. 0.35 cm above the floral bract attachment. Median sepal free, recurved, elliptic to ovate, 0.6–0.72 by 0.33–0.42 cm, index 1.5–2.1; apex acute; margins entire; glabrous; 3-nerved. Lateral sepals free, recurved, ovate, 0.7–0.88 by 0.3–0.43 cm, index 1.8–3.0; apex acute; margins entire; glabrous; 3-nerved. Petals porrect, obovate-oblong, 0.3–0.38 by 0.08–0.12 cm, index 3.0–3.8; margins entire; glabrous; apex obtuse; 1-nerved. Lip slightly recurved close to its base, rather thick, elliptic, 0.45–0.52 by 0.22–0.24 cm, index 1.8–2.4 (without spreading); margins entire, coarsely papillose except near apex; apex obtuse to acute; upper side concave in the basal 2/3rd because of slightly upturned, coarsely papillose edges, with a V-shaped furrow near the base bordered by two low, finely papillose ridges which at the top meet and continue as a rounded, rather narrow, glabrous median ridge up to 2/3 of the length of the lip, top part of the lip slightly convex, upper surface otherwise glabrous; underside slightly convex, slightly furrowed at the to, surface glabrous, papillose towards the edges. Column including stelidia 0.26–0.37 cm long; column foot at the top widened and with spreading, rounded lateral teeth; stigma obovate; stelidia upwards falcate, narrowly triangular, 0.17–0.2 cm long, acute; pollinia 4, the inner two more than half as long as the outer.

Sepals pale ochre, nerves red-purple. Petals white, thickened part purple Lip purple, base and margins white, apex yellow.

Bulbophyllum nudicaule J.J.Verm., Schuit. & de Vogel belongs in series C.
Within series C, Bulbophyllum nudicaule J.J.Verm., Schuit. & de Vogel shares the partly bare rhizome (not entirely covered by scales) with Bulbophyllum gymnothema J.J.Verm., Schuit. & de Vogel and B. tricaudatum J.J. Verm.; it differs from both in the coarsely papillose lip margins.
