Appendicula matapensis Ormerod, Malesian Orchid J. 13 (2014) 49, fig. 7.
Type: M.S. Clemens 11218 (holo AMES).
Synonyms:
Epiphytic herb. Rhizome not seen. Roots terete, pubescent, 0.05–0.075 cm thick. Stems terete, densely leafy, longer than 22.5–31.0 cm by 0.075–0.240 cm; branchlets numerous, to 9.5 cm long above. Leaves ligulate-lanceolate, 0.6–2.5 by 0.15–0.4 cm its basal 0.2–0.4 cm appressed to stem; leaf sheaths tubular, truncate, smooth, striate when dry, its exposed part 0.3–0.7 cm long; apex tridentate. Inflorescence pseudoterminal, 1.1–1.9 cm long; peduncle 0.6–0.9 cm long; sheath midway on peduncle, lanceolate, with acute apex, 0.5–0.9 cm long; rachis fractiflex, laxly successively-flowered, 0.5–1 cm long; floral bracts ovate-rhombic, 0.6 by 4 cm, its margins halfway erose to irregular, with subacuminate apex, 3-nerved. Pedicel and ovary clavate, 0.4 cm long. Median sepal ovate, 0.32 by 0.2 cm; apex obtuse. Lateral sepals obliquely ovate; apex obtuse to subacute; midnerve thickly keeled, 0.63 by 0.29 cm (0.5 cm long along midnerve); mentum subquadrate, c. 0.15 cm long. Petals oblong-elliptic, 0.3 by 0.15 cm; apex obtuse. Lip oblong-oblanceolate (appearing subpandurate due to callus); “claw” 0.56–0.6 by 0.12–0.15 cm; blade o.21–0.24 cm wide; lower two thirds with finely papillose-pubescent margins; callus subpandurate, retrorse, fleshy; at the base only a small part free, there with cornuform lobule, between which 2 globose thickenings, continuing onto the disc as 2 parallel keels with broad to narrow ends; apex obtuse with a small subapical thickening; 5-nerved. Leaves purplish green when young, mature leaves midgreen; leaf sheaths becoming greyish-white with age. Flowers white with purple, or purple.

Appendicula matapensis is similar to A. anomala but the median sepal is much shorter, and it nhas a lip callus with horn-shaped basal lobules (versus short thickenings).
Appendicula matapensis is also similar to A. ancosiphila in the flower details but that species differs in the deep V-shaped basal part of the callus.
