Agrostophyllum gahavisukae Ormerod, Orchadian 17 (2013) 377, fig.

Type: T.M. Reeve 6353 (holo K;iso LAE).

Epiphytic(?) herb. Roots not seen. Stems caespitose, sublaxly foliose, 24.7-27.5 by 0.3-0.4 cm across the sheaths; at the base subterete, higher up compressed. Leaves linear­ ligulate, obliquely erect, 6-8.6 by 0.25-3 cm; apex equally to unequally bidentate, tips the teeth 0.02-0.1 cm long; leaf sheaths open to near the apex of the next sheath, its stipules lanceolate-subulate, 0.5 cm long, acute. Inflorescence terminal, composed of bracts and sheaths, probably successively 1- flowered, c. 1.5 by 0.3-0.5 cm. Pedicel and ovary terete, 0.9 cm long. Median sepal oblong-elliptic, 0.715 by 0.295 cm; upper quarter carinate; apex acute; 3-nerved. Lateral sepals obliquely oblong­ elliptic, 0.85 by 0.295 cm (0.79 cm along midrib; upper half carinate; apex subacuminate; 4-5-nerved. Petals oblong­ lanceolate, 0.65 by 0.175 cm; apex acute; 3-nerved. Lip 3-lobed, 0.92 cm long; hypochile shortly retrorse-saccate, 0.4 by 0.19• cm, its lateral lobes rounded-oblique; ligula subquadrate, bicuspidate, papillose-pubescent, raising c. 1 mm above sidelobes; epichile widely rhombic, weakly trilobulate,0.52 by 0.7 cm, its midlobule widely and shortly triangular, 0.14 by 0.4 cm. Column obliquely erect, 0.4 cm long (without anther cap).

Leaf sheaths with black­ margin. Flowers white, slightly translucent, lip (epichile?) with yellow patch.

Montane forest. Altitude 2250 m.

Malesia (New Guinea), endemic.

Agrostophyllum gahavisukae is similar to A. huonense Ormerod, but differs in the longer leaf sheaths (0.5 vs 0.03-0.1 cm), a shorter ovary (0.9 versus 1.3 cm), narrower petals (0.175 versus 0.25 cm), a bicuspidate ligula (versus bidentate), a column with a more pronounced base, and a half box-like substigmatic appendage (versus semi-conical).

Agrostophyllum gahavisukae is also similar to A. alticola Ormerod, but differs in having longer leaf sheath stipules (0.5 versus 0.02-0.1 cm), a terete ovary (versus triquetrous), narrower petals (0.175 versus 0.25-0.275 cm), a more pronounced column base and a much larger, prominently exserted substigmatic appendage.
