Plants tufted, epiphytic. Rhizome short, creeping. Pseudobulbs on a plant all of similar size and all potentially fertile, crowded on the rhizome; the base more or less swollen, gradually tapering into a (usually?) more or less flattened, slender long top part which at the very top abruptly widens into a (more or less?) distinct collar. Leaf erect, dorso-ventrally flattened, usually rather thin. Inflorescences arising in succession, 1-flowered, with a terminal floral bract; spathe laterally compressed. Flowers small to median size, , ephemeral, wide open, white with yellow on the lip, magenta ro rfeddisch; not turning pink to purplish to the end of anthesis. Pedicel and ovary long, slender. Sepals and petals spreading widely. Median sepal erect or recurved, oblong-ligulate. Lateral sepals falcate, widely opening, erect or recurved, oblong-ligulate. Petals erect or recurved, obliquely elliptic, almost twice as broad as the sepals. Lip more or less clearly divided in a hypochile with lateral lobes and an epichile; keels on the hypochile 2, more or less straight, not undulating; dome-shaped farinose callus on the lip absent, although pubescence may be present between the keels. Column compact, with curved column foot; clinandrium 3-lobulate; anther cap-shaped; pollinia 4.

Epiphytes in lowland forest. Altitude: predominantly below 400 m.

Genus Dendrobium section Diplocaulobium subsection Regale de Vogel is most similar to Genus Dendrobium section Diplocaulobium subsection Mekynosepalum de Vogel in the vegetative parts, especially in the top part which abruptly widens into a (more or less?) distinct collar, but the latter has spidery flowers with the petals as narrow or narrower than the sepals (versus relatively broad sepals and the petals obovate to spatulate and c. 2x as wide as the sepals.
