Terrestrials, herbaceous, glabrous. Tubers small, globose, naked. Leaf 1, convolute, about as wide as long, erect to prostrate, entire or lobed at the base, thin to membranous; petiole absent or present. lnflorescence 1-flowered or racemose. Flowers 1 or several, resupinate, dull- or brightly coloured, either seemingly sitting on the leaf base, with the lip base tubular with two closed spurs or with cylindrical open-ended auricles and the column enclosed by the lip base, or 1-several flowers arranged along a rachis, with the lip base not tubular and without spurs or auricles, and the column not enclosed by the lip base. Lip not lobed, fixed to the base of the column, either with a tubular base and spreading lamina or flat and plate-like, with or without basal calli; nectar present or absent. Column without free filament and style parts; column foot absent; pollinarium present or absent; pollinia 4. Fruit a dehiscent capsule.
